7) Supplemental Recruitment Initiatives. List and briefly describe the Supplemental Recruitment Initiatives
undertaken during the period covered by this Report.
(a) Initiative: Internship Program
Citadel has established several internship programs for local college students, designed to assist members of the
community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. Throughout the year, interns are recruited from
Syracuse University, SUNY Oswego, Lemoyne College, Onondaga Community College, and the New York State
Broadcasters Association. The interns are supervised by the Promotions Director, the Production Manager, and the
Sales Managers. During the internships, which usually last for one or two semesters (depending on the school and
the amount of credits to be received), participants are exposed to and trained in the skills necessary to have a
successful career in the broadcasting industry. Citadel-Syracuse manages as many interns as possible. Three
extensive Internships focus on distinct areas of radio broadcasting: programming, sales, business office, production,
and remote techs. Intern responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, hands on work with production studio
equipment, involvement in the creation and execution of commercial copy and scheduling, writing and editing of
news copy and public service announcements, assisting on-air personalities in the production of their programs,
assisting with live remote broadcasts, working in the music library, attending meetings of promotion committees,
assisting in the organization and compilation of listener data bases, attending sales meetings, and involvement with
sales and the servicing of client needs and advertising plans.
(b) Initiative: Participation in events or programs sponsored by educational institutions relating to career
opportunities in broadcasting; Educational Tours/Lectures with Local Schools and Groups
Citadel regularly provides tours of the studios, including the sales areas and production rooms, to local schools and
other groups. Participants are given the opportunity to see the production capabilities of the stations and record their
voices, as well as receive exposure to various aspects of broadcast employment and careers in the radio industry.
One of the morning show hosts provided tours on the following dates for the following groups:

(c) Initiative: Training Management Level Personnel
On September 11, 2007, station managers attended a training session entitled “Discrimination in the Workplace:
Don’t Bring It On.” This was conducted at the Citadel Managers Meeting. The session provided an overview of
federal antidiscrimination laws and provided station-specific examples of the application of the antidiscrimination
laws.
